Jerry Lucena will join team ahead of the second game of the group stages in the AFC Challenge Cup. The midfielder is set to lineup along with Simon Greatwich in the center of midfield if German boss Weiss picks him for Wednesday’s clash.
The midfielder’s presence proves to be vital for the team, as sitting midfielder Jason de Jong is unlikely to feature against Palestine. Azkals skipper Aly Borromeo covered the defensive midfield spot against Myanmar as Weiss opts to win the midfield duels. With the addition of Lucena, more options will be available for the German on midfield and he can re-form his back four to its original state.
The 30-year-old who plays for Danish first division club AGF Aarhus is one of the most awaited debutants for the national team. He also played for Denmark’s U-21 in his early years. Lucena’s experience can help strengthen the midfield, and add more international experience to the squad. Now that Jason de Jong is largely unavailable, Lucena may be one of the few who can bring the same quality as what de Jong is bringing to the team’s midfield if not better.
Lucena is one of the 6 new players that Weiss brought to battle for the AFC Challenge Cup in Myanmar. Source
