Suzuki Cup Under-23 football tournament starts Wednesday

TWENTY-THREE teams will be competing the Suzuki Cup Under-23 football tournament beginning Wednesday at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, Laguna Campus. The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) intends to discover via the tournament, new players for the country’s football team that would compete in the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia on November. Three overage players would also be selected from the Philippine Azkals for the said purpose.

The top two Under-23 teams that would emerge would battle it out in a single-elimination format for a home-and-away semifinal match. The finals are slated May 15 of this year.

Attending the tournament’s opening rites on Wednesday are PFF President Mariano Araneta, Suzuki Philippines President Satoshi Uchida and other local football officials. Source
