Playing against Philippine Azkals will be a new taste for the Nepal National Team – Gorkhali!
Nepal, so far in its international football history, has played less matches against ASEAN side and the friendly match against Philippines which is scheduled on October 11 in Manila is expected to be a challenging one.
Though Nepal are ranked high above than Philippines in FIFA Ranking, playing away match in front of 30,000 capacity is sure to be a daunting task for Gorkhalis.
The match will mark the first time in more than a decade that the Philippines are hosting an international friendly match.
Although the Philippines has hosted tournaments like AFC Challenge Cup and more recently, the World Cup Qualifiers, it has not staged a friendly match at home since the Philippines lost to Estonia, 0-1, in November 1997 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The Philippines are playing five matches in 11 days. They are participating in the Long Teng Cup in Taiwan before going to Singapore on October 6.
Meanwhile, Philippines team manager, Dan Palami said, “Nepal match will give the Azkals a preview of what to expect in the AFC Challenge Cup next year in Kathmandu. Nepal are ranked higher than us, it will be a good indicator of how we are from their level,” Palami was quoted as saying. Published in Goal Nepal
