Azkals team manager Dan Palami is hoping that the current Filipino football squad will remain intact for coming international tournaments.
“We have to make sure that this team is intact for the Challenge Cup and the Suzuki Cup. I mean if we get to play together in several matches, I think it would be safe to say that we would be a very strong contender in the tournaments,” Palami said following the Azkals’ win over higher-ranked Nepal on Tuesday.
A more complete Azkals line-up blasted away the Nepalese football squad, 4-0, during their friendly game at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Only missing on Tuesday’s roster were injured players Angel Guirado, Stephan Schrock, and Anton del Rosario.
“Right now, Angel and Schrock are missing. If they are there in the picture then we have all the options that we can have especially for the coaching staff. And it will an even stronger team with everyone around,” said Palami.
He said the only challenge they will have to face is making sure that professional football clubs will be willing to release the Filipino-foreign players in time for the major tournaments.
Palami said the Fil-foreign footballers play a big role in developing the local football scene.
“These are really the players that we need. I hope that our local-based players get to see the quality of the players that we are bringing in and therefore inspire them to play this game in the future,” he said. Published in ABS-CBN News
